NEU Atatürk Faculty of Education Students Visited Lefke Copper Minerals.

Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Science Teaching and Institute of Educational Sciences, Department of Environmental Education and Management students and lecturers Prof. Dr. Şerife gündüz and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aşkın Kiraz visited Lefke copper minerals.

Lefke Environment Protection Services Coordinator Tamer Dayıoğlu, presented valuable information to the students on the history of mineral industry in Cyprus and CMC (Cyprus Mineral Company).

Tamer Dayıoğlu explained that between the years of 1913-1974, CMC contributed a lot to the economoy of Lefke and close environment and social life in Lefke and stated that the harm because of the closing of CMC and mine tailing pond (or 30.000TB) still continues, ecological structure of the region has been destroyed and pollution negatively affects marine animals.
