Special Education Department lecturers and students organized an awareness event for “2 April World Autism Awareness Day” with banners containing awareness slogans related to autism in front of Atatürk Faculty of Education and flew blue balloons to draw attention to autism. Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Mirici, Head of Special Education Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mukaddes Sakallı Demirok, lecturers and students actively participated to this awareness event and remarked the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for emphasizing awareness and solutions towards autism.

2 April World Autism Awareness Day

The United Nations declared 2 April as World Autism Awareness Day in 2008 to rise awareness about autism all over the world and to create solutions for individuals with autism. Each year, importance of early diagnosis and early and intense education for autism is emphasized during April which is the “Autism Awareness Month”.
