Assoc. Prof. Dr. Umut Akçıl was born on February 16, 1983, in Nicosia. He completed the basic education in Nicosia. He graduated from the NEU Computer and Instructional Technologies Department in 2008. He completed his undergraduate education by obtaining high honours many times. He later became an assistant at the Near East University, then continued to work as a research assistant. He had a Master's degree in the same department in 2011.

In 2015, he received his PhD in Educational Administration Supervision, Economics, and Planning. After receiving the title of doctor, he started to work as a faculty member in the Faculty of Education. He received the titles of Assistant Professor in 2015 and Associate Professor in 2018.

Since 2018, he has been working as the Deputy Dean and President of the Educational Programme and Instruction. Since 2023, he has been the head of the classroom teaching department.

He teaches undergraduate courses such as statistics, scientific research methods and ethics, classroom and school management, and teaching principles and methods. He teaches graduate courses such as entrepreneurship, leadership, and contemporary management practices.

It has national and international book chapters. In addition, he has a referee in national and international respected journals. He is working as an assistant editor and publication/article editor in SSCI journals scanned in WoS and SCPU. He is working on projects with the Ministry of National Education.

Also, he works outside of my academic duties. He acts with a sense of social responsibility. He prepared and managed EU and UNDP projects for non-governmental organizations.

His fields of study include digital education, digital management, digital supervision, digital citizenship, open leadership, and digital pedagogy.
