He was born in Famagusta in 1980. After graduating from Akdoğan Polat Pasha High School in 1997, he graduated from EMU, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. After four years of undergraduate education, he went to Turkey in 2001 and started his master's degree education at Ege University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Turkic World Studies, Turkish Folklore. In 2003, he completed his master's degree with his work titled “Turkish Cypriot Folk Jokes and Humor Theories” and started his doctoral education in the same branch of science. In 2010, he completed his doctoral education with his thesis titled “Comparison of Turkish Cypriot Folk Tales and Uyghur Turkish Folk Tales (Review-Texts)”. He worked as a lecturer at the Department of Turkish Teaching at Near East University between 2008-2010. Later, he completed his military service between 2010-2011 and started working as a lecturer at the Department of Turkish Language and Literature in the fall semester of 2011. Since 2018, he has been the Head of the Department of Folklore at the Near East University, Ataturk Faculty of Education. And since 2019, he has been the Vice President of the Department of Social Sciences and Turkish Education at the Near East University, Ataturk Faculty of Education. Assoc. Dr. Burak Gökbulut has published in many international journals and has made presentations at symposiums and conferences in different parts of the world.
